Dear Friends and Family, Known and Unknown,
I’m writing this on December 13th, 5 weeks since the fire. That day is embedded within my body and soul, and I find myself in a dance with it. One of my partners is me – my personal, multi-layered experiences of shock and grief and anger and deep sadness. Another is the collective. Because this is both a personal and collective experience. When my personal partner returns, she always gives me a big spin around – my privilege, my blessedness, my safety. And then I immediately find myself in a group, dancing with all the people still in shelters, ones who lost everything. Of course the invisible ones who were consumed by the fire take their turns with me as well.
It’s intense. We all want to “go home” yet there is no home. We want to be back in our familiar town – I did/do love Paradise, but there is no town. And there’s no room for too many of us in near-by Chico. Don’t try to imagine. 40,000 – 50,000 people are living it for you. We’re paving some kind of path, I guess, but I can’t see it right now.
My Q’ero godson taught me a phrase – muchisimas gracias. I love it. And I offer it to you, Friends, Family, Known, Unknown – MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS!!!!! For your kind words, donations, big love and support. I know I walk a shamanic path and someday all this will be Big Medicine I can offer. Just not yet. Unless you want to know about insurance, because as my angel, pro-bono private insurance agent said, soon I’ll be ready to take the adjuster licensing exam!
