Shamanic Soul Retrieval
Shamanic Soul Retrieval is a cross-cultural shamanic tradition, an ancient ceremony where lost parts of the soul are found, offered healing, and restored. Soul Retrieval Ceremonies have been a crucial component of my Spiritual Healing practice for over thirty years. They enhance traditional therapy and save lives. I have even witnessed instantaneous miracles.
Why Might a Person Need a Soul Retrieval?
Psychology and Shamanism agree; trauma creates dissociation. On a psychological level, we survive trauma by dissociating. On a spiritual level, the core of psychological dissociation is soul loss. The symptoms: addiction, self-hatred, depression, memory loss, spaciness, anxiety, feeling like you don’t belong, illness, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicidal tendencies, insomnia, and more, are the same for both.
People spend years in various types of therapies trying to heal and break free from traumatic events, childhood conditioning, and unhealthy life patterns. Sometimes they’re successful, but too often, resolution is difficult. And while pharmaceutical companies offer medications to ease our pain, is it possible to fully heal when pieces of our souls are missing?
Dissociation and soul loss are common themes for a majority of my clients, whether they are physically ill, emotionally suffering, or energetically challenged. Shamanic Soul Retrieval is a proven way to become whole again. It facilitates physical and emotional healing, frees us from PTSD, and enhances our life force.
What is the human soul? What is soul loss? Where do dissociated parts go? How can we get them back?
Imagine a sparkling light of spirit consciousness within the center of your heart. Now look deep within and imagine that inside this light is a seed.
When a spirit incarnates into form, its unique soul-seed sprouts, grows, emerges, and emanates from our “heart/soul space” at the center of the chest, and surrounds us like a large, energy bubble.
We are spirit, within soul, within body.
When we experience trauma, part(s) of our soul detach, go to a place in another reality, and become stuck in time. This helps us survive, yet there’s a cost. Our soul-parts are multi-dimensional aspects of ourselves, and unaware that the original trauma is over, continuously relive it. This phenomenon creates PTSD because we are our soul-parts.
Imagine:
I am led to your innocent, joyful, five-year-old self wading in a bubbling stream while singing to the deer, squirrels, and raccoons, but she won’t let me bring her home to adult you if daddy is still around.
What happened at that age?
A forty-year-old, devoted mother feels an unexplained loss. On my shamanic journey for her, I am brought to the upper world where I meet a creative, ecstatic twenty-five-year-old soul-part painting on a large, brightly colored canvas. Wasn’t that when she had her first child and turned her studio into a nursery?
An eighteen-year-old part of your soul is standing on the side of the road, screaming. Is that where the car accident occurred ten years ago? Are you still afraid to drive?
A tightly swaddled newborn, frozen in shock, is all alone in the hospital nursery. My client lived without that part for her entire eighty-year life. Abandonment has been her foundational wound.
Soul loss creates a void within the soul that fills with heavy energy. And since soulular energy moves throughout the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical layers of the soul, the state of our soul affects our entire human experience.
Marc
I met Marc in Mexico through a mutual friend. He had been a Green Beret during the Vietnam War and returned home with a severe case of post-traumatic stress disorder. Marc saw countless doctors and took a myriad of prescription medications for years, but experienced little relief. No matter where he was—in bed, on the beach, at the store—Marc could not get away from the war. At his final psychiatric visit, the doctor told him, “You have the worst case of PTSD I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing we can do for you.”
During Marc’s Soul Retrieval, I was taken to a battlefield where I witnessed an adrenalin-pumping, hyper-alert, shattered soul-part. My Teacher said, “Gather all the pieces in a basket.” I called, “Marc. Come. Come.” When the
basket was full, we traveled to my healing spot and immersed all of the pieces in the healing water. After a long while, a twenty-year-old Marc—vibrant, grounded, and present—emerged. He greeted his power animal, who had been patiently waiting for him at the shoreline. Soul-part Marc was ready for Life, and I blew him and his power animal into his soul, where they belonged.
A few days later Marc said he’d slept better than he had in years. I never saw him again, although our friend told me he was back in Texas and was feeling calm. Marc was finally able to leave the war behind.
Sonja
Sonja was an active woman in her late thirties with two young children. That winter, she’d had a skiing accident that necessitated numerous surgeries, and when I met her, she had a rod in her knee and walked with a cane. Sonja was so depressed she barely spoke.
During the Spiritual Healing, as I was channeling Light for Sonja, I realized she needed a Soul Retrieval to restore her voice. My Teacher and power animal arrived and brought me to a section of the ocean floor where iridescent fish encircled a small area. I was instructed to dig. A shovel appeared, and I soon uncovered a treasure chest. I opened the heavy lid, and the bright sparkle of dazzling jewels almost blinded me. Rubies. Emeralds. Diamonds. My Teacher said they were a manifestation of Sonja’s voice and had been buried there since she was five years old. I received the riches, called for healing, and blew Sonja’s jeweled voice directly into her physical throat.
I received a phone call from Sonja later that week. She said that she had been speaking in a
child-like voice and was concerned. “Is this ok?” she wondered. I told her to allow a few more days for the energy of her voice to harmonize within her newly refined soulscape. It took a week for Sonja to regain her adult voice. And she loved using it!
Me
In 2018, the Camp Fire of Paradise, California, destroyed my home and property, and then in 2020, the worldwide Pandemic affected everyone. During those years, the Soul Retrieval Ceremony was an important healing modality for me. I hadn’t been in Peru since 2017, but the time was finally right for my return, and in July 2023, I journeyed to my special places with a couple of friends. I was finally feeling myself.
On our first full day, we were in the woods just outside of Pisac, near a sacred ceremonial rock. Two Q’ero paqos/shamans were performing a despacho/offering ceremony to bless our trip. I’ve participated in hundreds of despacho ceremonies, each one always unique and powerful, but I’d never had an unexpected Soul Retrieval before.
Something happened within me amidst the mystery of blowing prayers into coca leaves
and placing offerings on the altar, and when we were complete, I stood up and wept deeply. Somehow, parts of my soul that I hadn’t known were missing were restored. Spontaneously. When we began the despacho, I thought I was whole, but when we completed it, I remembered myself in ways I had forgotten. It was a profound soulular restoration. A Soul Retrieval without any of the shamanic actions I was used to taking.
The Collective Human Soul
My Teacher, Ezekiel, said, “Each individuated human soul has a unique imprint, energetic signature, and vibrational current, and all combine to create the dynamic of the collective human soul. Everything individual affects the collective.”
This is not unlike the Four-Petaled Flower, where each individual petal meets in the center and combines to create the collective energy of the entire flower.
Shamanic Soul Retrieval offers us the possibility to reap the wisdom we’ve gained from traumatic experiences while leaving the trauma behind. To live in the present moment, no longer triggered by past events. When we feel whole, present, and centered and grounded in our bodies, Life opens in surprising ways.
Return to Wholeness…
Soul Retrieval is also offered on our Spiritual Journeys to Peru.
